Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission or Manual Transmission.
  2. Remove the clutch and flywheel as equipped.
  3. Notice: Remove the rear crankshaft oil seal carefully in order to avoid nicking the crankshaft sealing surface.

  4. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. Insert a screwdriver into the notches provided in the seal retainer and pry the seal out.
  5. Inspect the chamfer on crankshaft for grit, loose rust, and burrs. Correct as necessary.
  6. Clean the seal running surface on the crankshaft with a non-abrasive cleaner.

Installation Procedure

J 35621-A Rear Oil Seal Installer

  1. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal using the following procedure:
  2. 1.1. Lubricate the inner and outer diameter of the seal with engine oil.
    1.2. Install the oil seal on the J 35621-A .
    1.3. Position the J 35621-A against the crankshaft. Thread the attaching screws into the tapped holes in the crankshaft.
    1.4. Tighten the screws securely with a screwdriver. This will ensure that the seal is installed squarely over the crankshaft.
    1.5. Turn the handle until it bottoms.
    1.6. Remove the J 35621-A .
  3. Install the clutch and flywheel as equipped.
  4. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission or in Manual Transmission.
