For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Clean all the parts in a suitable solvent. Air dry all the parts.
  2. Inspect the reverse idler gear teeth for the following conditions:
  3. • Scuffed gear teeth
    • Nicked gear teeth
    • Burred gear teeth
    • Broken gear teeth
    • High spots (Small shiny spots on the gear teeth mating surfaces) that could cause gear noise
  4. Replace the reverse idler bearing assembly if any of these conditions exist:
  5. • Roughness of rotation
    • Burrs
    • Pitted condition
    • Bearing cage damage
  6. Inspect the reverse idler shaft for the following conditions:
  7. • Scoring
    • Wear
    • Overheating
  8. Replace the revere idler shaft if signs of wear or overheating exists.
  9. Remove any scoring with a soft stone or crocus cloth.
