Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disconnect the engine
coolant temperature (ECT) gauge sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve inlet pipe
from the exhaust manifold.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the spark plug
wire harness and the support.
- Remove the exhaust manifold
bolts and the stud.
- Remove the exhaust manifold and the spark plug wire shields from
the engine.
- Clean all gasket surfaces. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Clean and Inspect
.
Installation Procedure
- Sub-assemble the spark
plug wire shields, bolts, and NEW gaskets to the exhaust manifold.
The stud installs in the front hole.
- Install the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Installation
.
- Install the spark plug
wire harness and
the support.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the support bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the support bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Connect the ECT gauge
sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the EGR valve inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the EGR valve inlet pipe exhaust manifold nut to 30 N·m
(22 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Connect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
