Wheel Hub Bolt Replacement RWD-All Except C3500HD

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 9746-02 Wheel Stud Remover

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Notice: Support the caliper with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake line.

  4. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Remove the hub/rotor. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 1819  Size: SH
  7. Remove the wheel hub bolts with a press.
  8. • Support the hub/rotor using the J 9746-02 and the press bars.
    • Do not damage the wheel mounting surface on the hub/rotor flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 179465  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel hub bolts into the hub/rotor.
  2. 1.1. Place four washers and a nut on the bolt.
    1.2. Tighten until the bolt is fully seated in the hub/rotor.
  3. Install the hub/rotor. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement .
  4. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Install the wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

Wheel Hub Bolt Replacement RWD-C3500HD

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 9746-02 Wheel Stud Remover

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the hub/rotor assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement .
  3. Important: Place the J 9746-02 between the press bars and the hub/rotor in order to protect the rotor surfaces.

  4. Remove the wheel hub bolts with a press.
  5. • Using the J 9746-02 and the press bars, support the hub/rotor.
    • Do not damage the wheel mounting surface on the hub/rotor flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 8939  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel hub bolts into the hub/rotor.
  2. 1.1. Place four washers onto the bolt. Fasten a nut onto the bolt until the nut bottoms on the washers.
    1.2. Tighten the nut until the bolt fully seats into the hub/rotor.
    1.3. Remove the nut and the washers.
  3. Install the hub/rotor to the vehicle. Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement in Front Suspension.
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Lower the vehicle.

Wheel Hub Bolt Replacement S4WD

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 6627-A Wheel Stud Remover

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Notice: Support the caliper with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake line.

  4. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Remove the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.

  6. Object Number: 130906  Size: SH

    Important: Do not hammer on a wheel bolt.

  7. Remove the hub bolt using the J 6627-A .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stud to the hub and bearing assembly.

  2. Object Number: 8939  Size: SH
  3. Install four washers and the nut to the stud.
  4. Tighten

    1. Install the nut. Draw the stud in.
    2. Remove the nut and the washers.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  6. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  7. Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
