Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38042 Dual O-Ring Tube Separator

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer toRefrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors, as necessary.
  4. Remove the pressure cycling switch.

  5. Object Number: 257998 Size: MH
  6. Disconnect the hose assembly from the accumulator using the J 38042 . Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  7. Disconnect the accumulator from the evaporator using the J 38042 .
  8. Important: Cap or plug all of the open connections.

  9. Remove the O-ring seals from the accumulator.
  10. Remove the accumulator bracket screw.
  11. Remove the accumulator.
  12. Remove the upper and the lower accumulator insulators.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 257998 Size: MH
  1. Install the upper and lower accumulator insulators.
  2. Install the accumulator.
  3. If the accumulator is being replaced, add oil. Refer toRefrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the accumulator bracket screw.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the screw to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. Coat the new O-ring seals with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  7. Install the new O-ring seals.
  8. Connect the accumulator to the evaporator.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the accumulator to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  10. Connect the hose assembly to the accumulator. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  11. Connect the pressure cycling switch.
  12. Connect the electrical connectors, as necessary.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Charge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
