Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the engine block heater cord electrical connection from the engine block heater.

  3. Object Number: 385806  Size: SH
  4. Remove the mounting bolts from the frame (4.3L engines).

  5. Object Number: 385808  Size: SH
  6. Remove the mounting bolts from the frame (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines).
  7. Remove the engine block heater cord.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine block heater cord.

  2. Object Number: 385808  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the mounting bolts to the frame (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the mounting bolts to the frame (4.3L engines).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  7. Connect the engine block heater cord electrical connection to the engine block heater.
  8. Remove the safety stands.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
