Removal Procedure

  1. Remove 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Object Number: 687185  Size: SH
  5. Using a C-clamp or the equivalent, compress the caliper piston until the caliper piston bottoms in the bore.

  6. Object Number: 363420  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the brake hose at the caliper by removing the inlet fitting bolt.

  8. Object Number: 406126  Size: SH
  9. Remove the caliper guide pin bolts (15 series pickups).

  10. Object Number: 371261  Size: SH
  11. Remove the caliper guide pin bolts (15/25 series utilities, 25 series pickups).
  12. Remove the caliper.
  13. Inspect the caliper assembly. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the caliper.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the caliper guide pin bolts (15 Series pickups only).
  3. 2.1.  Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 or Red LOCTITEâ„¢ #272 to the threads of the bolt.

  4. Install, but do not tighten the caliper guide pin bolts (15 series pickups).

  5. Object Number: 371261  Size: SH
  6. Install, but do not tighten the caliper guide pin bolts (15/25 series utilities, 25 series pickup).
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts.
  9. Tighten

        • Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 42 N·m (31 lb ft) (15 series).
        • Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 108 N·m (80 lb ft) (25 series).

  10. Connect the brake hose at the caliper by installing the inlet fitting bolt.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the inlet fitting bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  12. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure in Antilock Brake System.
  13. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Remove the safety stands.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
