Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side Pickup

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension on the cable by loosening the nut at the equalizer.

  5. Object Number: 363847  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer.

  7. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH
  8. Remove the bolt from the rear axle clip.
  9. Remove the cable from the differential clip.

  10. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs (standard cab).

  12. Object Number: 390058  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cable from the body mount by depressing the locking tabs (extended cab).

  14. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  15. Remove the cable from the lever.
  16. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  17. Remove the cable from the retaining bracket.
  18. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place.
  3. Attach the cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 363839  Size: SH
  5. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place (standard cab).

  6. Object Number: 390058  Size: SH
  7. Install the cable to the body mount until the locking tabs snap into place (extended cab).

  8. Object Number: 366864  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Bolt the cable to the differential (clips).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Important: After installing the cable to the rear axle holding clip, verify that clip is securely retaining the cable. If not, crimp the clip by hand taking care not to pinch or kink the cable.

  11. Install the cable to the differential clip.

  13. Connect the cable to the equalizer.

  14. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  15. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  17. Remove the safety stands.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side 15 Series Utilities

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.

  5. Object Number: 555741  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable at the equalizer.
  7. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  8. Object Number: 555748  Size: SH
  9. Remove the cable from the left side guide.

  10. Object Number: 555752  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cable from the right side guide.

  12. Object Number: 555749  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cable from the track bar clips.

  14. Object Number: 555746  Size: SH
  15. Remove the cable from the lever.
  16. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  17. Remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 555746  Size: SH
  1. Install the cable.
  2. Install the cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until locking tabs snap into place.
  3. Install the cable to the lever.

  4. Object Number: 555750  Size: SH
  5. Remove the cable to the track bar clips. Verify that the clips are installed between the locators on the track bar.

  6. Object Number: 555752  Size: SH
  7. Install the cable to the right side guide.

  8. Object Number: 555748  Size: SH
  9. Remove the cable from the left side guide.

  10. Object Number: 555741  Size: SH
  11. Install the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.
  12. Connect cable end to the equalizer.

  13. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  14. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  16. Remove the safety stands.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 493216  Size: SH
  4. Relieve the tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.

  5. Object Number: 555985  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the cable at the equalizer.

  7. Object Number: 555975  Size: SH
  8. Remove the cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.

  9. Object Number: 556206  Size: SH
  10. Remove the cable from the cable guide.

  11. Object Number: 555956  Size: SH
  12. Remove the cable from the rear axle clip.

  13. Object Number: 555939  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cable retention clip bolt from the rear axle.

  15. Object Number: 555945  Size: SH
  16. Remove the cable from the lever.
  17. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
  18. Remove the cable.

  1. Install the cable.

  5. Install the cable retention clip bolt to the rear axle bracket.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  18. Lower the vehicle.
