Parking Brake Shoe Replacement 15 Series

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Relieve the tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.
  5. Remove the parking brake cable from the lever.
  6. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  7. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

  8. Object Number: 370485  Size: SH
  9. Turn the adjustment screw (1) to the fully home position in the notched adjustment nut.
  10. Remove the park brake shoe assembly by sliding the shoe (2) towards the retaining spring (3) until the shoe disengages from the spring.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the debris and the dust from the park brake components using a clean towel.

  2. Object Number: 370485  Size: SH
  3. Align the slots in both the adjusting screw and tappet to be parallel with the backing plate face.
  4. Position the park brake shoe on the inboard side of the actuator.
  5. Slide the parking brake shoe into position and seat into the retaining spring.
  6. Inspect the shoe assembly position. The shoe must be central on the backing plate with both tips located in the slots.
  7. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .
  8. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  9. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  10. Install the park brake cable to the park brake lever.
  11. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  14. Install the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  15. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  16. Remove the safety stands.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Adjust parking brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Adjustment .

Parking Brake Shoe Replacement 25 Series

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Relieve the tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.
  5. Remove the parking brake cable from the lever.
  6. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  7. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.

  8. Object Number: 370046  Size: SH
  9. Remove the park brake shoe return springs (4 and 6).
  10. Remove the park brake shoe anchor springs and pins (3).
  11. Remove the park brake shoes (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the debris and the dust from the park brake components using a clean towel.

  3. Install the park brake shoes (2).
  4. Install the park brake shoe anchor springs and pins (3).
  5. Install the park brake shoe return springs (4 and 6).
  6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment .
  7. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement in Rear Drive Axle.
  8. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  9. Install the park brake cable to the park brake lever.
