Disassembly Procedure

J 24319-01 Universal Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 470653  Size: SH
  1. Remove the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) from outer tie rod stud (1).
  2. Remove the tie rod seal (2) from the outer tie rod assembly (1).

  3. Object Number: 470656  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the hexagon jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod assembly (1).

  5. Object Number: 470658  Size: SH
  6. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (2) from the steering knuckle (1) using J 24319-01 .

  7. Object Number: 470661  Size: SH
  8. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (3) from the inner tie rod assembly (1).

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 470663  Size: SH
  1. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (3) to the inner tie rod (1). Do not tighten the hexagon jam nut (2).

  2. Object Number: 470669  Size: SH
  3. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (1) to the steering knuckle (2).

  4. Object Number: 470653  Size: SH
  5. Install the tie rod seal (2) to the outer tie rod assembly (1).
  6. Connect the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) to the outer tie rod stud (1).
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the hexagon torque prevailing nut (3) to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

    Important: Be sure the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.

    Adjust toe by turning the inner tie rod. Follow recommended manufacturer specifications.

    Tighten
    Tighten the hexagon jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
