Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Floor Shift

Tools Required

J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture


    Object Number: 415301  Size: SH

    Important: Align the block tooth on the steering column shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

  1. Put the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  2. Remove the tilt lever from the lower trim cover.
  3. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .

  4. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).

  6. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  7. Remove the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover by performing the following steps:
  8. 5.1. Tilt the lower trim cover down.
    5.2. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  9. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  10. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.

    Object Number: 415301  Size: SH

    Important: Align the block tooth on the steering column shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

  1. Put the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  2. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  3. Pull the tilt lever out from the lower trim cover.

  4. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
  6. Slide the shift lever seal up the shift lever.

  7. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  8. Remove the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover.
  9. Tilt the lower trim cover down.
  10. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  11. Object Number: 415299  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  13. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.

  14. Object Number: 419648  Size: SH
  15. Remove the shift lever screw (3).
  16. Remove the shift lever assembly (4).
  17. Remove the shift lever seal (2) from the shift lever assembly (4).

Tools Required

    • J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture
    • J 42640 Steering Column Anti Rotation Pin

    Object Number: 415301  Size: SH

    Important: Align the block tooth on the steering column shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

  1. Put the steering column and J 41352 into a vise.
  2. Insert J 42640 into the lower trim cover of the steering column.
  3. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  4. Pull the tilt lever out from the lower trim cover.

  5. Object Number: 415298  Size: SH
  6. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2).
  7. Slide the shift lever seal up the shift lever.

  8. Object Number: 328807  Size: SH
  9. Remove the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover.
  10. Tilt the lower trim cover down.
  11. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs.

  12. Object Number: 415299  Size: SH
  13. Remove the 2 TORX® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
  14. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.

  15. Object Number: 419648  Size: SH
  16. Remove the shift lever screw (3).
  17. Remove the shift lever assembly (4).
  18. Remove the shift lever seal (2) from the shift lever assembly (4).
