Did you perform the Lighting Diagnostic System Check?

--

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems

2

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

  1. Ensure the ambient light sensor does not have any obstruction.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, read the head lamp relay feedback status in the Body Control Module (BCM).

Does the scan tool show the status of ON?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

4

  1. Ensure the headlamp switch is in the auto position.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the BCM.
  4. Using J 35616-A connect a test lamp between the headlamp relay feed circuit and to a good ground at the BCM. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 5

5

  1. Reconnect the BCM if you disconnected the BCM in a previous step.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, Scan Tool read the ambient light sensor voltage in the BCM.
  4. While monitoring the scan tool, cover the ambient light sensor, then induce a light source to the sensor.

Does the sensor voltage vary near the specified values?

4.7- 2.2V (DRL on), 0.2- 1.3V (Headlamps on)

Go to Step 6

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in Body Control System

6

  1. Ensure the headlamp switch to the auto position.
  2. Using the scan tool, command the headlamps OFF.

Do the headlamps go OFF?

--

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 8

7

Repair the short to voltage in the headlamp relay feed circuit between the engine wiring harness junction block and the BCM. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

--

Go to Step 9

--

8

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Did you complete the replacement?

--

Go to Step 9

--

9

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

--

System OK

Go to Step 3
