  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade controls to each speaker.

Do all of the speakers operate properly?

Is the vehicle equipped with an amplifier?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the amplifier for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the radio on signal circuit of the amplifier for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio.
  3. Disconnect the amplifier.
  4. Test the speaker circuits of the radio for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Reconnect the radio.
  2. Using two fused jumpers, connect the suspect speaker inputs from the radio to the suspect speaker outputs from the amplifier in order to bypass the amplifier.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.

Do the speakers operate properly?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio.
  3. Test the speaker circuits of the radio for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio.
  3. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio.
  3. Disconnect the amplifier.
  4. Using two fused jumpers, connect the suspect speaker inputs from the radio to the suspect speaker outputs from the amplifier in order to bypass the amplifier.
  5. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?
