Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Remove the inoperative heated seat switch.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Backprobe cavity C (fused ignition positive voltage) (right seat), or cavity D (left seat) using a J 39200 digital multi-meter (DMM) and measure the voltage reading.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

11-14V

Go to Step 4

Test for an open ground circuit between cavity A (Passenger Heat Switch) or cavity B (Driver Heat Switch) and ground.

Did you find an open?

Go to Step 7

  1. Repair the open in the fused ignition positive voltage between the inoperative heated seat switch and IGN 3 fuse (located in the fuse block). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If no open is found, test for short to ground. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground in Wiring Systems.

Replace the respective heated seat switch.

Repair the open in the ground circuit from the respective heated seat switch and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
