Before you attempt to remove a spot or a stain from the fabric, try to determine the type and age of the spot or stain. You may remove some spots or stains with water or a mild detergent solution. Remove the spots or stains as soon as possible.
Some stains or soils such as lipstick, inks, and grease are very difficult (sometimes impossible) to remove completely. When you clean this type of stain, do not enlarge the soiled area. Use GM Tar and Road Oil Remover (GM P/N 105172) or equivalent in order to spot clean grease, oil, or fat stains.
Gently scrape the excess stain from the trim material. Use very little cleaner, light pressure, and clean cloths (preferably cheesecloth). Start cleaning at the outside of the stain and feather towards the center. Change to a clean section of the cloth as you clean.
After you remove the stain, immediately dry the area with a heat dryer or a heat lamp in order to help prevent a cleaning ring. Ise caution with the heat dryer or the lamp in order to help prevent fabric damage.
If a ring forms, immediately repeat the cleaning operation over a silghtly larger area with emphasis on feathering towards the center. If a ring remains, mask off the surrounding trim sections and clean the entire area with GM Multipurpose Powered Cleaner GM P/N 1052925 or equivalent.
