Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the CARGO DOOR AJAR message ON and OFF.

Does the message turn on and off with each command?

  1. Open the cargo door or liftgate.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the cargo door ajar switch parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display switch inactive?

--

Go to Step 11

  1. Close all doors.
  2. Gain access to and disconnect the door ajar switch.
  3. Connect a 3 amp jumper wire between the signal circuit of the door ajar switch and the ground circuit of the door ajar switch.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the cargo door ajar switch parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display switch inactive?

Test the Cargo door jamb switch signal circuit for an open, high resistance and a short to voltage.

Refer to Circuit Testing , Testing for Continuity and Testing for a Short to Voltage in wiring systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the switch ground circuit for an open and high resistance.

Refer to Circuit Testing and Testing for Continuity in wiring systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the cargo door / liftgate, RH and LH, and liftglass ajar switch(s) and cargo door contactor(s).

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in wiring systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM).

Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in wiring systems.

Replace the door ajar switch.

Refer to Liftgate Latch Replacement or Door Latch Replacement

Replace the BCM.

Replace the instrument panel cluster.
