For US and Canada

For GM dealers, with involved vehicles, a Campaign Initiation Detail Report (CIDR) containing the complete vehicle identification number, customer name and address data has been prepared and will be loaded to the GM DealerWorld (US) Recall Information, GMinfoNet (Canada) Recall Reports. Dealers/retailers will not have a report available if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned.

For Export

For dealers with involved vehicles, a Campaign Initiation Detail Report containing the complete vehicle identification number, customer name and address data has been prepared, and is being furnished to involved dealers. Dealers will not receive a report with the bulletin if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned.

The Campaign Initiation Detail Report may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete this program is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this report to the follow-up necessary to complete this program.

Dealer Program Responsibility

All unsold used vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this program must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this program bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, through September 30, 2006.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Program follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this program enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service prior to October 1, 2006, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the program correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

August 2005

Dear General Motors Customer:

This notice is sent to inform you that General Motors is conducting a voluntary customer satisfaction program on all 2001-04 Chevrolet Silverado; GMC Sierra; 2003-04 Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick model vehicles, equipped with a 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 engine. The purpose of this program is to inform you of a new improved fuel filter and to provide you with one free fuel filter change.

We also want to remind you that the maintenance schedule, as outlined in your vehicle owner’s manual, requires replacement of your vehicle’s Duramax fuel filter every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).

Failure to replace the filter as scheduled could lead to fuel injector or fuel injection system damage caused by contamination.

Damage from fuel contamination, whether introduced via the filling station or through the environment, is aggravated by failure to replace the fuel filter as specified in your vehicle maintenance schedule.

What We Will Do

To ensure maximum protection from fuel contamination damage and to help promote proper maintenance intervals, your GM dealer will replace your vehicle’s fuel filter with this improved fuel filter at no charge one time until September 30, 2006.

If you have not replaced your vehicle’s fuel filter in the last 90 days, we recommend you schedule an appointment with your dealer to complete this service at your earliest convenience.

If you have replaced your vehicle’s fuel filter within the last three months, you may want to save this offer for your next regularly scheduled 15,000 mile (24,000 km) fuel filter maintenance, but no later than September 30, 2006.

What You Should Do

To limit your inconvenience, we recommend that you contact your GM dealer to schedule an appointment for service. By scheduling an appointment, your dealer can ensure that the necessary parts will be available on your scheduled appointment date.

Customer Reply Form

The enclosed customer reply form identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this form to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you no longer own this vehicle, please let us know by completing the form and mailing it back to us.
