Subject: | 03-04 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Tinny Rattle Noise from Roof at Highway Speeds |
Models: | . |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.
Owners may comment on a tinny rattle type noise from the roof at highway speeds. This noise normally occurs if the vehicle is equipped with a "Topper/Cap/Camper Shell" that is higher than the roof line of the truck or when towing a trailer.
To correct this concern, use an expandable (minimal expansion, such as, 3M® 04320, Kent P10630 or equivalent) foam between the roof cross bow and roof sheet metal. Then install four 10 inch x 10 inch sound dampener pads to the under side of the roof sheet metal. One supplier of sound dampener pads is Kent Automotive at 1-888-YES-KENT. Kent part number for 10 inch x 10 inch pads is P32947 or equivalent, quantity 10.
