Oshawa Assembly Plant - vehicles built prior to VIN 51124736
The purpose of this message is to inform dealers of the revised VIN breakpoints for the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant. Also, this message adds the Pontiac Assembly Plant and corresponding VIN breakpoints.
Certain 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 Series full size pick-up trucks equipped with drum brake systems (RPO JF3 or JF7), may have one of the rear park brake cables not properly connected to the rear brake assembly. The vehicles involved were built at the Oshawa, Pontiac and Fort Wayne assembly plants. These plants can be easily identified by a "1", "E", or a "Z" respectively in the eleventh position of the VIN. Breakpoints for each plant are provided below:

Attached to this message is a service procedure for inspecting and, if necessary, connecting a rear park brake cable. Also attached are photographs to assist with the inspection. Please Note: When performing Step 2 of the repair procedure if the cable does not lock into position it could be caused by the return spring in the brake drum assembly being dislocated. If this happen the brake drum will have to be removed to properly relocate the return spring. Once the return spring is in position continue at Step 2 of the repair procedure. We are requesting that this service procedure be immediately performed on all involved vehicles currently in your inventory. Completion of the procedure prior to vehicle sale or delivery will help ensure customer satisfaction and reduce the possibility of future complaints. Upon completion of the service procedure, submit a warranty claim with the information indicated below:
