Subject: | Reprogram UB0, UB1 and US8 Radios to Correct CD Performance |
The following three Service Voice Mail Messages were sent to promote further
awareness of existing radio software correction to known radio concerns. Please share
this information with your service and parts personnel.
SERVICE VME #1 (sent 3/23/05) -- This message covers a variety of issues
and concerns related to radio performance. A great many radios are being exchanged
through Electronic Service Centers, for performance concerns that are correctable
in your dealership with radio software updates, or other procedures currently available
in SI. All radio concerns which have corrective measures, that you can address in
your dealership, without having to seek an exchange radio are published as either
GM Service Bulletins or PIs in SI. Please pay specific attention to the
radio option codes affected and match with the radio option code in the customer's
vehicle. If the specific radio concern is not already addressed in SI and your diagnosis
confirms the fault to be associated to the radio component, then an exchange may be
appropriate. In the event an exchange is necessary, please document your RO accordingly
and consider sending a Field Product Report so we may follow any concerns not yet
corrected.
SERVICE VME #2 (sent 3/24/05) -- The following two radio concerns which
can affect the UB0 single CD player, the UB1 single CD player with cassette, or the
US8 single MP3/CD player can be corrected by reprogramming the radio software in your
dealership without removing the radio. Please pay specific attention to the radio
option codes affected and match with the radio option code in the customer's vehicle:
• | First, affecting 2005 midsize utilities and full size pickups and vans
equipped with either the UB0 or UB1, which has a CD stuck in the player. The CD can
usually be removed if the radio fuse is removed for 30 seconds, reinstalled, and then
the eject button is pressed. If the CD ejects, then correct by reprogramming the radio
software according to Service Bulletin 04-08-44-020A, released February 9, 2005 and
use labor operation R0125 for this procedure. |
• | Second, affecting 2005 midsize pickups and utilities with the US8-CD/MP3
radio -- Customer comments regarding CD player long load-to-play time error message
can be corrected by installing the software upgrade CD provided with Service Bulletin
04-08-44-021A, released December 9, 2004 and use labor operation R9703 for this procedure. |
SERVICE VME #3 (sent 3/25/05) -- The following two radio concerns, which
can affect the 2005 Equinox can be corrected by reprogramming the radio software in
your dealership without removing the radio. Please pay specific attention to the radio
option codes affected and match with the radio option code in the customer's vehicle:
• | First, 2005 Equinox, equipped with the 6-CD changer MP3 radio, RPO US8
with a VIN breakpoint, last eight 56120274 or earlier, may have an issue related to
an ejecting CD concern or giving you an error message saying to check the CD. To correct,
reprogram the radio using the pass-thru method and refer to PIT3312B in SI for further
details. |
• | Second, 2005 Equinox with VIN 56096566 or earlier, and equipped with the
optional 6-CD changer, RPO code UC6, may have an intermittent condition where CD cannot
be loaded or ejected from the changer. A software lockup can occur. To undo the lockup,
temporarily remove the radio fuse. To correct, reprogram the radio CD changer with
the most current updated software and refer to PIT3393 in SI for further details. |
