Some of the above subject doors may experience intermediate swing-out door rattles in either the front or rear door assembly. These conditions can occur if the various lock rods are loose within the door mechanism.
To correct, it is necessary to install insulator(s) (P/N 14007449) between the door inside handle rod and upper lock rod on the front door assembly. Insulators are also required between the lower lock rod and the door inner panel near the horizontal anti-flutter bar and between the upper lock rod and control assembly on the rear door.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Open the front intermediate swing-out door assembly. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with a door trim panel, reach in the access hole and position (sandwich) insulator, P/N 14007449 (3), between the door inside handle rod and upper lock rod (1 and 2).
If the vehicle is equipped with a door trim panel, remove the pull strap, handle bezel and door trim panel to gain access to the lock rods (1 and 2). Install insulator per instructions in Step 2.
3. Reinstall door trim panel, handle bezel and pull strap, if required.
4. Reconnect negative battery negative.
1 . Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Open the rear intermediate swing-out door. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with a door trim panel, reach in the lower access hole and position (sandwich) insulator (P/N 14007449) between the lower lock rod (2) and door inner panel (4) near the horizontal anti-flutter reinforcement (1). Check operation to insure rattle has been eliminated. If a rattle still exists, it will be necessary to install a second insulator.
Refer to Figure 3. The second insulator should be positioned (sandwiched) between the upper portion of the control assembly (2) and the upper lock rod (1).
If the vehicle is equipped with a door trim panel, remove the trim panel to gain access to the door lock rods and perform the insulator installation described in the above paragraph.
3. Recheck the door operation to insure the rattles are eliminated. Reposition insulator(s) as required.
4. Reinstall the pull strap and trim panel if equipped.
5. Reconnect negative battery cable.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
