CAMPAIGN: INCORRECT EMISSION 'TUNE-UP' LABEL (RPO NA4)

General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to Motor Vehicle Safety exists in certain 1990 Chevrolet and GMC G30 Vans with L05 engines and NA4 emission systems. These vans were shipped with English only emission tune-up labels rather than the bilingual (English/French) heavy duty emission tune-up labels required under Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 1101.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are certain 1990 G30 Vans with L05 engines and NA4 emission systems built within the following VIN breakpoints:

Year Plant From Through

Chevrolet 1990 Scarborough SOP L4125370

GMC 1990 Scarborough SOP L4509604

All affected vehicles have been identified by the VIN listing provided to involved dealers with this bulletin. Any dealer not receiving a listing was not shipped any of the affected vehicles.

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY:

Dealers are to perform this campaign on all involved vehicles at no charge to owners, regardless of kilometres traveled, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your dealership for service, you are to ensure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

CAMPAIGN PROCEDURE:

Refer to Section 4 of the Service Policies and Procedures Manual for the detailed procedure on handling Product Campaigns. Dealers are requested to complete the campaign on all transfers as soon as possible.

OWNER NOTIFICATION:

All owners of record at the time of campaign release are shown on the attached computer listing and have been notified by first class mail from General Motors. The listings provided are for campaign activity only and should not be used for any other purpose.

PARTS INFORMATION:

A new label for each vehicle involved will be mailed to involved dealers (stock vehicles) on a no-charge basis.

PARTS AND LABOUR CLAIM INFORMATION:

Credit for the campaign work performed will be paid upon receipt of a properly completed campaign claim card, RAPID terminal or DCS transmission in accordance with the following:

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Remove engine cover.

2. Using a clean, dry cloth, wipe dirt, oil, etc. from top of the air cleaner lid. Note that the existing emission label should not be removed from the side of.the air cleaner.

3. Remove backing from new label and apply to air cleaner lid in area shown in illustration below (orient label so that writing can be read from the rear of the engine).

4. Beginning at centre of label, and using a clean, dry cloth, smooth and secure new label. Any air bubbles can be removed by puncturing them with a pin and smoothing with the cloth.

NOTICE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR LOOSEN NEW LABEL ONCE IT HAS BEEN APPLIED AS THIS WILL DEFACE THE LABEL.

5. Reinstall engine cover.

6. Install Campaign Identification Label.

INSTALLATION OF CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Clean surface of radiator upper mounting panel and apply a Campaign Identification Label. Make sure the correct campaign number is inserted on the label. This will indicate that the campaign has been completed.
