CAMPAIGN: INCORRECT DIPSTICK INSTALLED (REPLACE WITH NEW)

Subject: INCORRECT DIPSTICK INSTALLED

U.S. Campaign Number Cross Reference

Chev GMC 92C13 92C08

Models: 1992 Chevrolet & GMC G30 Vans With RPO MT1

TO: ALL GENERAL MOTORS DEALERS:

General Motors of Canada has determined that certain 1992 Chevrolet & GMC G30 vans equipped with 4L80-E automatic transmissions (RPO MTI) were shipped from the Scarborough assembly plant with the incorrect blade on the transmission fluid level indicators (dipsticks). The full cold indicator on the incorrect dipstick is 18.9 mm (3/4 in.) higher than on the correct dipstick. The transmission fluid was at the correct level when the vehicles were shipped from the plant. However, if someone were to check the fluid level with the incorrect dipstick, the fluid would appear to be low. Approximately 1 litre of fluid would be required to bring the reading on the dipstick up to the full cold mark. If this much additional fluid were to be added to the transmission, the transmission's performance and durability could be affected.

To prevent these conditions from occurring, dealers are to install a correct transmission dipstick.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are the following 1992 Chevrolet & GMC G30 vans equipped with 4L80-E automatic transmissions (RPO MT1) and built at the Scarborough assembly plant:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
