--------- Some owners of 1992 passenger cars and trucks with Flint built 5.OL or 5.7L V8 engines may comment on oil leaks from the rear of the engine. Flint built engines will have the letter "V" as the first digit of the engine serial number stamped on the engine block forward of the right hand cylinder head. Some of these leaks may be misdiagnosed as a rear main crankshaft seal or oil pan gasket leak.
----- Insufficient sealant around the camshaft plug, P/N 3997752, at the rear of the engine block.
---------- Before making repairs for rear main crankshaft seal or oil pan gasket leaks, check the cam plug by disconnecting the transmission and visually inspecting for oil leaks around the cam plug. Replace the plug if necessary. Use the following procedure to install a new plug:
0 Coat plug outside diameter with GM part number 12346004 sealant or equivalent.
0 Install plug flush to 0.79 mm (1/32 inch) deep.
