Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Automatic Transmission.
- Remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Automatic)
.
Important: When removing the crankshaft rear oil seal be careful not to nick the
crankshaft sealing surface.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.
- Inspect the chamfer on the crankshaft for damage. Repair as necessary.
- Clean the seal running surface on the crankshaft with a non-abrasive
cleaner.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 38841 Rear Oil
Seal Installer
- Install the crankshaft rear oil seal as follows:
1.1. | Lubricate the inner and the outer diameter of the seal with clean
engine oil. |
1.2. | Install the seal on the J 38841
. |
1.3. | Position the J 38841
against the crankshaft. |
Thread the attaching screws into the tapped holes in the crankshaft.
1.4. | Tighten the screws securely with a screwdriver in order to ensure
that the seal is installed squarely over the crankshaft. |
1.5. | Turn the handle until it bottoms. |
- Install the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement (Automatic)

- Install the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Automatic Transmission.
