Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cables. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.
  4. Drain the engine oil.
  5. Remove the flywheel cover.
  6. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  7. Remove the transmission cooler lines at the bracket.
  8. Remove the engine oil cooler line bracket.

  10. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  11. Remove the oil pan.
  12. Remove the oil pan rear oil seal.
  13. Clean the old RTV from the oil pan and the block.
  14. Clean all the oil and grease from the gasket surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply a 5 mm (3/16 in) bead of RTV sealant GM P/N 1052915 or equivalent to the oil pan sealing surface, inboard of the bolt holes. The sealer must be wet to touch when the oil pan is installed.

  2. Object Number: 60264  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil pan rear oil seal.
  4. Install the oil pan to the engine.
  5. Install the oil pan bolts.
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten all except the rear two bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
        • Tighten the rear two bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: If the oil cooler lines were disconnected from the quick connector or block, replace the fastener clip when reconnecting.

  7. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the bracket.
  8. Install the engine oil level indicator tube.
  9. Install the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   11. Install the flywheel cover.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the negative battery cables.
  14. Change the engine oil and oil filter.
