Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 23590 Spark Plug Port Adapter
    • J 5892-D Valve Spring Compressor
  1. Remove the valve rocker arms. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  2. Remove the spark plug at the cylinder to be serviced. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  3. Object Number: 66450  Size: SH
  4. Remove the valve keys using the following procedure:
  5. 3.1. Install the J 23590 into the spark plug hole.
    3.2. Apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.
    3.3. Install a valve rocker arm nut.
    3.4. Compress the valve spring using the J 5892-D .
    3.5. Remove the valve keys.
    3.6. Carefully relieve the valve spring tension.
    3.7. Remove the J 5892-D .
  6. Remove the cap and the spring.
  7. Remove the valve seal.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 22794 Spark Plug Port Adapter
    • J 5892-D Valve Spring Compressor
  1. Install a new seal. Install the seal over the valve stem and seat it against the head.
  2. Install the spring and the cap.

  3. Object Number: 66450  Size: SH
  4. Install the valve keys using the following procedure:
  5. 3.1. With air pressure applied to the cylinder using J 22794 , compress the valve spring with J 5892-D .
    3.2. Install the valve keys. Use grease in order to hold them in place, if necessary.
    3.3. Carefully release the valve spring pressure. Make sure the valve keys stay in place.
    3.4. Remove the J 5892-D and the J 22794 .
  6. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  7. Install the valve rocker arms. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  8. Adjust the valves. Refer to Valve Lash Adjustment .
  9. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
