Intake Manifold Replacement Upper
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from
the battery negative terminal. Refer to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.

damage.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Apply the proper amount of the sealant when assembling this
component. Excessive use of the sealant can prohibit the component from sealing
properly. A component that is not sealed properly can leak leading to extensive
engine damage.
Important: Do not reuse the intake manifold gaskets.
- Apply a 4.0 mm (0.157 in) patch of sealant to the cylinder
head side of the intake manifold gasket at each end.
- Install the gasket onto the cylinder head.
- Use the gasket locator pins in order to properly seat the gasket
on the cylinder head.
- Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of sealant GM P/N 12346192
or the equivalent to the front block.
- Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of sealant GM P/N 12346192
or the equivalent to the rear block.
- Extend the sealer bead 13 mm (0.499 in) onto
each gasket.
- Apply the threadlocking sealant GM P/N 12345382
or equivalent to the threads of the lower intake mounting bolts.
- Install the lower intake manifold onto the engine block.
- Install the lower intake manifold bolts.
Tighten
- Tighten the bolts first pass in sequence to 3 N·m
(27 lb in).
- Tighten the bolts second pass in sequence to 12 N·m
(106 lb in).
- Tighten the bolts final pass in sequence to 15 N·m
(11 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
