Park/Neutral Position Switch Removal

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Shift the transmission into neutral.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  4. Object Number: 32650  Size: SH
  5. Remove the nut securing the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
  6. Remove the transmission control lever from the manual shaft.
  7. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the park/neutral position switch.
  8. Remove two bolts securing the park/neutral position switch to the transmission.
  9. Remove the park/neutral position switch from the manual shaft.
  10. If the park/neutral position switch does not slide off of the manual shaft, file the outer edge of the manual shaft to remove any burrs.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

  1. J 41364-A

  2. Object Number: 32650  Size: SH
  3. Position the J 41364-A
  4. Ensure that the two slots on the switch (where the manual shaft is inserted) are lined up with the lower two tabs in the tool.

  5. Rotate the tool until the upper locator pin on the tool is lined up with the slot on the top of the switch.
  6. Important: Do not remove the J 41364-A

  7. Connect the switch to the transmission manual shaft.
  8. Before sliding the switch into the shaft, it may be necessary to lightly file the outer edge of the shaft in order to remove any burrs from the shaft.

  9. Align the switch hub flats with the manual shaft flats.
  10. Slide the switch onto the transmission manual shaft until the switch mounting bracket contacts the mounting bosses on the transmission.
  11. Connect the switch to the transmission and secure it with two bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts securing the switch to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  13. Remove the J 41364-A
  14. Connect the wiring harness connectors to the switch.
  15. Install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft.
  16. Important: The control lever must be held while tightening the nut to prevent internal transmission damage.

  17. Connect the transmission control lever to the manual shaft with the nut.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the control lever nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  19. Install the shift cable end to the manual shaft stud ball.
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
