INFORMATION ON SIDE & REAR CARGO DOOR

SUBJECT: INFORMATION ON SIDE AND REAR CARGO DOOR SEALS

MODELS: 1996 CHEVROLET AND GMC G1, G2 MODELS

THE 1996 FULL-SIZE VAN HAS A NEW DESIGN SIDE AND REAR CARGO DOOR SEAL SYSTEM THAT FEATURES IMPROVED WATER MANAGEMENT/DRAINAGE. THE PRIMARY SEAL IS ATTACHED TO THE BODY OPENING AND THE SECONDARY SEAL TO THE DOOR ASSEMBLY.

A PART OF THE DOOR SEAL REFERRED TO AS A "MUCKET" (FIGURE 1), IS LOCATED ON EACH DOOR AT THE UPPER CORNER NEAREST THE OPPOSITE DOOR. THE MUCKETS MEET WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED. EACH MUCKET IS DESIGNED WITH A POCKET THAT CAPTURES WATER AND DRAINS IT THROUGH AND OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR SEAL.

A WATER LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE, AT OR NEAR THE SIDE OR REAR DOORS, COULD BE CAUSED BY: A MUCKET MAY BE COMPRESSED WITHIN ITSELF OR ONTO THE OTHER MUCKET A MUCKET IS CLOGGED BY CONTAMINATION (DIRT, LEAVES, SEALER, ETC.) A MUCKET IS CUT, TORN OR PINCHED

IMPORTANT: IF A MUCKET SQUEEZES OUT BETWEEN THE DOOR ASSEMBLIES, NEVER CUT THE EXCESS OFF OR IT MAY NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED.
