Circuit Description

The PCM has the ability to dtermine the amount of offset needed to bring the engine to top dead center. This is used by the PCM to determine proper injection time.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

TDC offset greater than 2.5 degrees

or

TDC Offset less than -2.5 degrees.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The MIL will illuminate on 2 test failures.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

    • The PCM will turn the MIL off after three consecutive trips without a fault condition.
    • A History DTC will clear when forty consecutive warm-up cycles that the diagnostic does not fail (coolant temperature has risen 5°C (40°F) from start up coolant temperature and engine coolant temperature exceeds 71°C (160°F) that same ignition cycle.
    • Use of a Scan Tool

Diagnostic Aids

The PCM will only run the diagnostic test when a time set procedure has been activated. It is highly unlikely that the vehicle will be brought in with this DTC set. Refer to Fuel Injection Pump Top Dead Center Offset Adjustment .

Important: Before the clearing DTCs, use the Scan Tool Capture Info in order to record the Freeze Frame and the failure records for reference, as the data will be lost when the Clear Info function is used.

Are there any other DTCs set?

Go to the Applicable DTC Table

Clear all of the codes and reset the injection timing until the TDC Offset is between the specified values. Refer to Fuel Injection Pump Top Dead Center Offset Adjustment .

Is the timing within the specified value?

-0.25 to -0.75

Go to Step 6

Check the crankshaft position sensor for the following.

    • Proper installation
    • A loose or broken sensor mounting tab

Was a repair performed?

Go to Step 6

Replace the Injection Pump.

Important:  Refer to Fuel Injection Pump Replacement .

Is the action complete?

  1. Use the Scan Tool in order to select DTC, Clear Info.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Allow the engine to idle at the normal operating temperature.
  4. Select DTC, Specific, then enter the DTC number which was set.
  5. Operate the vehicle until the Scan Tool indicates that the diagnostic Ran.

Does the Scan Tool indicate that this diagnostic Passed?
