DIESEL OIL FILL RATE INFORMATION

ENGINE DAMAGE COULD OCCUR WHEN USING A "POWER FILL" METHOD OF ADDING ENGINE OIL IF THE RATE OF FILL IS TOO FAST. SINCE THE 6.2L LUBRICATION SYSTEM IS A CLOSED SYSTEM, THE RATE OF OIL FILL MUST BE LIMITED TO PREVENT OIL BEING DRAWN INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND CYLINDERS THROUGH THE CRANK-CASE VENTILATION SYSTEM. ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR IF OIL ENTERS THE CYLINDERS. DO NOT EXCEED AN OIL FILL RATE OF SEVEN (7) QUARTS IN TWO (2) MINUTES. ALSO, REMOVE THE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK DURING FILLING OPERATION; ASSURE THE DIPSTICK IS SEATED WHEN REPLACING. DEPENDING ON AMBIENT TEMPERATURES AND THE VISCOSITY OF THE OIL BEING USED, ADJUSTMENTS TO FILL EQUIPMENT PRESSURE MAY BE REQUIRED TO LIMIT THE FLOW RATE.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
