CONDITION INVOLVED GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1985 K30 LIGHT DUTY 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRUCKS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) 108 "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITHOUT THE ROOF MARKER LAMPS REQUIRED FOR TRUCKS OF 80 OR MORE INCHES OVERALL WIDTH. MARKER LAMPS ARE REQUIRED FOR SAFE OPERATION OF THESE TRUCKS DURING DARKNESS OR OTHER CONDITIONS OF REDUCED VISIBILITY. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, ROOF MARKER LAMPS WILL BE INSTALLED ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 2. LOCATE AND DRILL HOLES, USING MEASUREMENTS AS DESCRIBED IN THE ILLUSTRATION. WHEN DRILLING BE CAREFUL NOT TO DRILL THROUGH INNER ROOF PANEL. 3. REMOVE LEFT SIDE SUN VISOR. 4. INSTALL MAIN WIRING HARNESS IN ROOF STARTING FROM PASSENGER SIDE AND CONTINUING ACROSS UNTIL IT APPEARS AT THE SUN VISOR OPENING. REFER TO VIEW B IN ILLUSTRATION. 5. FEED REMAINING WIRE DOWN LEFT SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR UNTIL IT APPEARS AT THE ACCESS HOLE ABOVE THE KICK PANEL (AT THE AREA OF HEAD LAMP SWITCH UNDER DASH). 6. INSTALL WIRES AT ROOF ACCESS HOLES INTO PLUG SOCKETS. 7. LUBRICATE LAMP PAD SOCKET OPENING WITH RUBBER LUBRICANT AND INSERT THE SOCKET INTO THE PAD. 8. INSERT BULBS INTO SOCKETS. 9. INSTALL CLIPS (NUTS) OVER THE SCREW HOLES. 10. POSITION LIGHT PADS OVER HOLES PREVIOUSLY DRILLED AND INSTALL THE LENS USING THE ATTACHING SCREWS WITH NYLON WASHERS. 11. INSTALL BLACK CONNECTOR ON GROUND WIRE UNDER DASH AND PLUG INTO GROUND BUS BAR. 12. INSERT POSITIVE LED INTO HEADLIGHT SWITCH AS INDICATED. REFER TO VIEW A IN ILLUSTRATION. LOCATION IS OPEN POSITION BESIDE GREEN WIRE. 13. RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 14. TEST MARKER LAMP OPERATION BY PULLING HEADLAMP SWITCH. 15. INSTALL CAMPAIGN LABEL. CAMPAIGN NUMBER PARTS INFORMATION PARTS KITS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THIS CAMPAIGN ARE TO BE OBTAINED BY THE DEALER FROM THE CHEVROLET ZONE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. PARTS KITS WILL BE FURNISHED ON A NO CHARGE BASIS. PARTS ARE NOT TO BE ORDERED FROM OR RETURNED TO THE WAREHOUSING DISTRIBUTION DIVISION OF GENERAL MOTORS (WDDGM).
