THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 88-415-3B, DATED MAY 1989. THE 1990-91 MODEL YEARS HAVE BEEN ADDED. ALL COPIES OF 88-415-3B SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Customer comments of high power steering effort may be received on 1988-1991 C/K trucks.
C/K trucks have been designed with a higher required steering effort to provide a better road feel.
Before replacing any power steering components, check suspension components to be sure they are not damaged or worn out. If suspension components show no problems and the customer wishes to have the steering effort reduced, the following parts can be installed.
Part Number Description ---------- ------------- 26027058 Steering Valve 26010275 Adjuster Plug Seal Kit
Parts are expected to be available on February 4, 1991. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. GMSPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the parts will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be canceled as incorrectly ordered while 400 control is in place.
For vehicles repaired under warranty use:
Refer to applicable labor time guide for labor hours.
Reference the Power Steering section of the appropriate Light Duty Truck Unit Repair Manual for installation instructions.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
