Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer
to
Battery Cable
in engine
electrical.
- Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
- Remove the clutch from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
Important: When removing the crankshaft rear oil seal from the cylinder block be
careful not to nick the crankshaft sealing surface.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from
the engine block. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Removal
.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 38841 Rear Oil
Seal Installer
- Install the crankshaft rear oil seal as follows:
1.1. | Lubricate the inner and outer diameter of the crankshaft rear
oil seal with clean engine oil. |
1.2. | Install the crankshaft rear oil seal the J 38841
. |
1.3. | Use the J 38841
to
install the crankshaft rear oil seal on the crankshaft. |
1.4. | Remove the J 38841
from the crankshaft. |
- Install the flywheel to the crankshaft. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
- Install the clutch to
the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Install the transmission to the engine block.
- Lower the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable
in Engine Electrical.
