Removal Procedure
Use a stripe removal disc (3M part number 7501
or 7502 or equivalent), attached to a drill, in order to remove all traces
of stripe from the body panel.
Installation Procedure
Important: Apply the decals or stripes in a clean environment where dust or fibers
will not adhere with proper adhesion.
- Clean the area where the decal or the stripe will be mounted.
Use a suitable solvent, such as a mixture of 50 percent isopropyl
alcohol and 50 percent water.
- Dry the area thoroughly.
- If paint in the area is chipped, repaint the area.
Ensure that the paint gets feathered in.
- Warm the body surface and the decal or the stripe to 27-38°C
(80-100°F).
- Most stripes and decals can be applied dry, as long at this results
in a bubble-free application.
Stripes and decals to be applied into body openings or on flexible surfaces
must be mounted wet.
- Perform the following steps in order to use the wet application:
6.1. | Use a wetting agent, such as Dupont Duponal WA or equivalent,
and follow the manufacturer's instructions and warnings or decals into body
openings or on flexible surfaces. |
Do not use a soap solution. Duponal is a paste that should be mixed
with water (5 percent Duponal WA and 95 percent water).
6.2. | Remove the backing from the decal or the strip by peeling the
backing away. |
In hot, humid weather, the adhesive back of the decal can be sprayed
with a mist of the wetting solution.
6.3. | Use a squeegee, and starting at the center of the decal, squeegee
the decal onto the body. |
6.4. | Ensure that all air bubbles and the wetting solution are removed. |
6.5. | Pull the decal back onto itself in order to remove the premask
from the decal. |
Do not lift the premask straight up.
6.6. | Use the squeegee in order to go over the decal again. |
6.7. | If air bubbles are still present, prick them with a pin. |
6.8. | Apply additional heat of at least 60°C (140°F) to the
decals at or below the belt line of the vehicle. |
6.9. | Use a Teflon-sheathed squeegee in order to go over the decal again
while the decal is still hot. |
