Subject: | Service VME -- Front Door Window Regulators May Be Inoperative At Times |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Some customers may comment that the front door window regulators operate harshly or are inoperative on their fullsize pickup / utility vehicle. Many customers / dealers are unaware that these trucks have a safety feature called Circuit Protection Device ( CPD ) which can shut off the current flow to the window motor to prevent motor burn-out under excessive current conditions.
However, once activated, the system will reset itself within ten seconds of its initial operation. Since technicians may be unaware of this system, window regulators may be replaced even though they are operating as designed. We request dealers / technicians to verify that the CPD is inoperable before they replace the front door window regulators. If the CPD is not operating properly, the window will either (1) not cycle at all, even after ample time is given for the CPD to reset or (2 ) cycle with no interruptions at all because the CPD does not function to interrupt current to the motor.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
