Subject: | Service VME -- Park Brake Wear |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
We have received numerous field product reports relative to premature park brake wear on GMT800 /820/830 trucks with the "drum -in-hat " park brake system. Engineering has root caused the issue and it appears that an ineffective clip loosens and allows the brake mechanism to self-energize. The brake lining will then slip to one side, against the drum and potential excessive lining wear could result. This situation will be corrected in production beginning with the 2003 model year. A new clip ( P/N 88982879 ) has been released for service.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
