Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Pickup

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 878134  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe from the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly.

  3. Object Number: 878140  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the fuel tank EVAP pipe from the EVAP canister.

  5. Object Number: 878143  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the EVAP pipe from the EVAP canister.

  7. Object Number: 878131  Size: SH
  8. Remove the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
  9. Remove the EVAP canister.
  10. Disconnect the EVAP pipe from the EVAP canister and retaining clip.
  11. Remove the EVAP canister from the bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 878131  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister to the bracket.
  2. Connect the EVAP pipe to the EVAP canister and retaining clip.
  3. Install the EVAP canister.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Connect the EVAP pipe to the EVAP canister.

  8. Object Number: 878140  Size: SH
  9. Connect the fuel tank EVAP pipe to the EVAP canister.

  10. Object Number: 878134  Size: SH
  11. Connect the EVAP pipe to the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement Cab/Chassis

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 878149  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the fuel tank evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe from the EVAP canister.
  2. Disconnect the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly from the EVAP canister.

  3. Object Number: 878148  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the EVAP vent valve pipe from the EVAP canister.

  5. Object Number: 878133  Size: SH
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the EVAP canister nuts.
  8. Remove the EVAP canister.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 878133  Size: SH
  1. Install the EVAP canister.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   3. Install the EVAP canister nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Lower the vehicle.

  7. Connect the EVAP vent valve pipe to the EVAP canister.

  8. Object Number: 878149  Size: SH
  9. Connect the fuel feed/return and EVAP pipe assembly to the EVAP canister.
  10. Connect the fuel tank EVAP pipe to the EVAP canister.
