Subject:Power Folding Mirror Temporary Parts Restriction - activated adjust DL3 DL7 forward front left lock loose operation outboard position power rear right side

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

The power folding exterior rear view mirrors may fold-in at highway speeds. A customer may encounter this condition after the mirrors have been manually folded inward or outward such as in car wash situations.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Effective March 31st, 2003 through July 1, 2003, the 2003 MY products with RPO DL3 or DL7, Power Folding Outside Rear View Mirrors, will be put on restriction. It will be necessary to contact the PQC (Powertrain Quality Center) at 1-866-654-7654 to get one of these outside rear view mirrors released.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE CONTACTING THE PQC.

It is a normal function of the DL3/DL7 mirrors, to unlock from the detent position in the event that the mirror housing is manually folded inboard or outboard.

It will be necessary to electronically cycle the mirrors to correct condition, please follow the attached procedure.

  1. Move the left/right mirror selector switch located on the drivers door armrest to the neutral (center) position.
  2. Using the mirror selector control switch, momentarily press and release the (right) mirror direction switch pad. There will be a few second delay before the mirror electronically folds inward.
  3. Then momentarily press and release the (left) mirror direction switch pad. There will be a few second delay before the mirror electronically folds outward.
  4. Once this operation has been completed, the mirrors will now be engaged into the detent position.

Please note: The mirrors may also include a memory function which works in conjunction with the power folding mirrors. You may notice the mirror glass adjust as the mirrors fold in, this is normal. The mirror glass will reposition itself once the mirrors are unfolded.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

You may want to explain this to your customer so they can reset these mirrors themselves. You can also reference the owners manual which has the above information.
