Subject: 01- 05 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra with 6.6L Diesel Inaccurate Outside Temperature Reading on Inside Rearview Mirror

Models:.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Customers may comment that the outside ambient temperature reading is too high or incorrect on the inside rearview mirror. With the winter front cover installed over the radiator grill the ambient air temperature sensor is not in optimal location. The sensor is taking engine compartment temperature reading vs. the actual ambient air temperature due to its location.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this concern reposition the ambient air temperature sensor to an existent hole on the radiator support under the left turn signal assembly. This location is exactly the same location that is used to install the ambient air temperature sensor, which is located under the right hand turn signal assembly. This will eliminate the bracket that is being used at the original installation, and rerouting the harness closer to under the left turn signal will reduce the length of wire by approximately 12 inches (304.8 mm).

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
