Subject:Allison LCT1000 Will Not Shift From Park Due to Ice, Snow or Mud Build-up on Shift Linkage

Models:2001-2006 Chevrolet Silverado
2001-2006 GMC Sierra
Equipped with Allison LCT1000 (RPOs - M74 or MW7)



The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment about the inability to shift their transmission after operating in slush, snow, icy, or muddy conditions. Investigation may show a build-up of ice or mud on the transmission around the shift cable to manual shaft connection.

Recommendation/Instructions:

A transmission shield (or equivalent) that will protect the shift cable / manual shaft area from snow, ice and mud build-up is available. This shield is NOT available through GMSPO and must be purchased from a distributor like, Custom Truck Parts, phone 1-800-803-7785. Cost of the shield is approximately $100 and installation time is approximately 0.4 hours. Installation of this shield is not considered to be warranty.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
