The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The following generally occurs after extended driving hot and typically after extended driving hot while towing:

  1. Clutch fade, slip and overheat.
  2. Poor clutch performance.
  3. Clutch will not fully disengage.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Flush the clutch system and install dot 4 brake fluid. If unavailable through GMSPO, acquire through a local parts store.
  2. Contact the AVM and receive approval to install an aftermarket manual transmission cooler if the vehicle is under warranty. There are several designs in the aftermarket that vary in price and effectiveness. The most effective designs are those that have a pump that circulate the fluid through an external cooler. This will all be up to the discretion of the customer, dealer and AVM if under warranty. There are no plans for GM to offer this item through GMSPO for this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
