This bulletin is being revised to state that engineering is no longer working on a fix for this condition. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-02-118-001 (Section 02 -- Steering).
Condition
Some customers may comment on an intermittent "Service 4-Wheel Steer" message and that all three 4-wheel steer system indicator lights will illuminate. In this state, the 4-Wheel Steer system will not operate. This condition will only occur at time of start-up (when the ignition is first turned on). This condition will NOT occur after the vehicle is running. Technicians should also note that during this condition there will be no Tech 2® communication with the Rear Wheel Steer Control Module.
Correction
DO NOT REPLACE THE REAR WHEEL STEER CONTROL MODULE.
Cycle the ignition off then back on. After the key is cycled, Tech 2® communication will be restored and no DTC will be set.
