Service VME - Base Radio (UM7) Lock Out

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Some early 2003 Model Year Sierra / Silverado full-size pickups with the base FM radio ( RPO UM7 ) may have been shipped to dealers with the radio in a LOCKED OUT condition.

For 2003 models, this radio is a SPS ( Service Programming System ) programmable radio; however, the program calibrations are not yet available for the UM7 radio. Effective 08/25/2002 on disc # 9 dealers can program the radio through SPS Programming .

For other up level radios, programming calibrations are currently available from Tech Line.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
