Installing A Used PNP Switch

Tools Required

J 41364-A Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch Aligner

    Object Number: 1217152 Size: SH
  1. Make sure the manual shift shaft is in the Neutral (N) position as follows:
  2. 1.1. Place a wrench on the manual shift shaft flats and rotate the shaft to the furthest clockwise position.
1.2. Rotate the manual shift shaft counterclockwise 2 detents.

    Object Number: 1332587 Size: SH
  3. Be sure that the J 41364-A  (2) is in the proper position on the park/neutral position (PNP) switch (1).

  4. Object Number: 1424507 Size: SH
  5. Align the PNP switch (1) with the transmission case so that the J 41364-A is facing outward.
  6. While maintaining the correct PNP switch-to-manual-shift-shaft alignment, slide the PNP switch (1) over the manual shift shaft (2).
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. While holding J 41364-A in engagement with the PNP switch, install 2 bolts (3) so that the PNP switch may be rotated with some effort.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. Remove J 41364-A .

  11. Object Number: 1332588 Size: SH
  12. Install the splash shield (1), concave side toward the PNP switch (3), over the manual shift shaft (2).
  13. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Object Number: 1332589 Size: SH

    Notice:

       • DO NOT drive the selector lever onto the manual shift shaft.
       • DO NOT use an impact wrench in order to tighten the selector lever nut. Hold the lever with a wrench while tightening the nut.
       • Failure to follow these instructions may result in transmission damage.

  14. Install the shift lever (2), and then install the shift lever nut (3) by hand, on the end of manual shift shaft (4).
  15. Using a wrench (1) to keep the shift lever from rotating, tighten the shift lever nut (3).
  16. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  17. Reconnect the shift selector linkage/cable to the shift lever (2).
  18. Connect the external wiring harness to the PNP switch.

Installing A New PNP Switch
