Tools Required

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.




1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.

Important: Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.

2. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
3. Remove and discard the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .



4. If tilt column, remove the following parts from the steering column shaft assembly:

4.1.	The cam orientation plate (5)

4.2.	The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)

4.3.	The upper bearing spring (3)

4.4.	The upper bearing inner race seat (2)

4.5.	The inner race (1)

1. If tilt column, install the following parts onto the steering column shaft assembly:

1.1.	Lubricate the inner race (1) with GM P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516).

1.2.	The inner race (1)

1.3.	The upper bearing inner race seat (2)

1.4.	The upper bearing spring (3)

1.5.	Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529).

1.6.	The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly

1.7.	The cam orientation plate (5)




2. Install the new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
3. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
4. Firmly seat the bearing retainer into the groove on the steering shaft assembly.
5. Remove J 23653-SIR .
6. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
