HIGH CLUTCH PEDAL EFFORT/HARD TO ADJUST-NEW LEVER ASSY./BRKT

Subject: CLUTCH LINKAGE HIGH PEDAL EFFORT - ALL 1983 AND PRIOR KODIAKS EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND WITHOUT CABLE CLUTCH LINKAGES

The Kodiak clutch linkage may exhibit a high pedal effort or the linkage may be difficult to adjust. The high pedal effort condition may be a result of idler lever pin corrosion.

A new clutch lever assembly and clutch lever frame bracket assembly have been released for service use. The clutch lever assembly is installed on the clutch lever shaft bracket mounted on the dash and toe panel, and the clutch lever frame bracket assembly is mounted on the left hand frame rail beneath the cab. See Figure 1. for more information. These new assemblies are equipped with grease fittings. These grease fittings will allow the clutch linkage idler levers to be lubricated during normal chassis lubrication.

When replacing the clutch lever or the clutch lever frame bracket, the bushings into which the pins are inserted should be inspected. If these bushings are found to be damaged, the lever or bracket assemblies which contain these bushings will also have to be replaced.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
