IT IS IMPORTANT THAT CORRECT TENSION AND ALIGNMENT BE MAINTAINED ON THE FAN DRIVE COMPONENTS. ON THIS APPLICATION, AT REGULAR MAINTENANCE INTERVALS, THE TENSION SHOULD BE CHECKED AND, IF NECESSARY, ADJUSTED TO 350N-400N (80-90 LBS.) USED BELT, 400N-440N (90-100 LBS.) NEW BELT. USE BT-33-73F BELT TENSION GAUGE OR EQUIVALENT. AT THE SAME TIME ALIGNMENT SHOULD BE CHECKED. IN ORDER TO CHECK ALIGNMENT AND TORQUE RETENTION ON THE FAN DRIVE DRIVE ASSEMBLY, THE FOLLOWING STEPS CAN BE TAKEN: 1.INSPECT THE MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE ENGINE TO BE SURE IT IS FREE OF PAINT; ALSO INSPECT FOR FLATNESS. 2.WHEN INSTALLING THE SUPPORT, BE SURE THE MOUNTING BOLTS (P/N 9425082) ARE TORQUED TO 115NM-142NM (85-105 LB.FT.). 3.IF ANY MISALIGNMENT EXISTS IN THE DRIVE HUB ASSEMBLY BOTH THE PULLEY (P/N 2055465) AND HOUSING ASSEMBLY (P/N 2053572) SHOULD BE REPLACED. 4.CHECK FOR PAINT IN THE PULLEY TAPER AND REMOVE IF FOUND. TORQUE THE PULLEY TO THE HUB USING A HARDENED FLAT WASHER P/N 2436168 AND PTN P/N 9418942 TO 122NM-149NM (90-110 LB.FT.). 5.PROPERLY TORQUE THE THREE HOUSING MOUNTING BOLTS TO SUPPORT, USING A CROWS FOOT TYPE SOCKET AT A TORQUE OF 88NM-108NM (65-80 LB.FT.). SEE ATTACHED DIAGRAM. TO ENSURE PROPER TORQUE RETENTION AT THE DRIVE ASSEMBLY THE PROPER BOLTS AND SPECIAL WASHERS MUST BE USED. A DESCRIPTION OF THAT BOLT AND WASHER IS AS FOLLOWS: BOLT 3 REQUIRED SPECIAL WASHER 3 REQUIRED BOLT M12 X 1.75 X 45MM SPECIAL WASHER P/N 2016866 BOLT P/N 11500945 IT IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT ALL MOUNTING BOLTS BE TORQUED PROPERLY TO ENSURE PROPER BELT TENSION AND ALIGNMENT.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
