MIS-ALIGNED HOOD.
SECTION 2B-2 OF THE 1994 SERVICE MANUAL LISTS A HOOD ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS DIFFERENT IN THAT THE INTERNAL DIMENSIONS ARE USED INSTEAD OF SHEET METAL ALIGNMENTS.
1. OPEN THE HOOD. LOOSEN THE 2 NUTS HOLDING THE LH HOOD BUMPER (RUBBER V-BLOCK) IN PLACE. CENTER THIS BUMPER ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET (FIGURE 2).
2. MEASURE 67-3/4 INCHES (1720 MM) FROM CENTERLINE LH HOOD BUMPER OVER TO CENTERLINE OF RH HOOD BUMPER WITH A TAPE MEASURE ROUTED THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. TWO TECHNICIANS WILL BE REQUIRED. THIS IS THE ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION FOR THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CENTERS OF THE HOOD BUMPERS. LOOSEN AND MOVE THE RH HOOD BUMPER TO ACHIEVE THE 67-3/4 INCH DISTANCE BETWEEN CENTERS. TIGHTEN HOOD BUMPER BOLTS ONCE THIS DIMENSION IS ACHIEVED.
3. LOOSEN 4 BOLTS PER SIDE ON HINGE BRACKET #10 (FIGURE 1, VIEW A).
4. LOWER HOOD ONTO V-BLOCKS. ADJUST DOOR TO HOOD GAP AT TOP TO 3/4 INCH (17 MM) AND TIGHTEN BOLTS ON THE HINGE BRACKET ON BOTH SIDES. OPEN THE HOOD. IF RESISTANCE IS FELT FROM HOOD GUIDE AND HOOD LATCH PANEL AREA, COMPLETE STEP 5.
5. LOOSEN INBOARD BRACE BOLT INSIDE FENDER WELL ON "ELEPHANT EAR" PANEL (#32 ON FIGURE 3, VIEW A).
6. CLOSE HOOD AND REOPEN USING THE HOOD HAND HOLDS. VERIFY THE ADJUSTMENT ALLOWS THE HOOD TO BE OPENED WITH ABOUT 60-80 LBS. OF EFFORT OR WHAT THE DRIVER FEELS IS ACCEPTABLE.
